Attention Clubs and Organizations: TCNJ Holiday!

2009 November 5
by tcnjsga

TCNJ Holiday!

Dear Student Organization!

You are cordially invited to participate in TCNJ Holiday 2009.  The theme for this year’s TCNJ Holiday brought to you by CUB and SGA is “TCNJ for the Holidays”.  This momentous program will take place on Thursday, December 3rd in the Brower Student Center.  TCNJ Holiday is an evening of sharing the holiday spirit, cheer, and sense of unity while giving back to the community and celebrating diversity.   The night will be filled with traditional seasonal activities, such as an indoor ice-skating rink and the appearance of mascots, such as gingerbread men and Santa.  More importantly there will also be a campus-wide celebration of Pasko, Diwali, Christmas, Eid, Chanukah, Three Kings Days, Kwanza, and Polish Christmas Eve to observe and celebrate the differing seasonal holidays.  A craft-making extravaganza, in which the crafts are donated to local charities, nursing homes and hospitals, will follow the candle lighting ceremony.

This is where we need your help!  Each campus organization has the opportunity to participate in one of the largest campus service projects of the year.  Every organization is invited to sign up for a table where you will be involved in making your own unique craft to contribute to the charities, nursing homes, and hospitals. SGA Volunteers will deliver these crafts from the College to the community organization in order to give back and spread the holiday cheer.  We ask that you do not exceed 75 individual crafts per organization.  Please remember to bring all the necessary materials that are needed for students to make your organization’s craft.  We ask that you arrive to the Student Center for TCNJ Holiday at 6:00pm to begin setting up your table.

We encourage all of you to participate in this memorable event to help spread holiday cheer, celebrate diversity and contribute to the community.  If you would like to join us for TCNJ Holiday, please view the online Form Genie: https://jedi.tcnj.edu/webteam/cgi-bin/formgenie/formgenie.pl?form=34614.  Please make all submissions by Wednesday, November 18th.  We will not accept any late registrations.  Be able to include a description of your craft and its material; though please be aware that we are not responsible for buying or obtaining any of your supplies.  If you have any questions or would like to be a part of the program in another way, please e-mail Trish Krug at krug3@tcnj.edu .  Hope to see you there!

Sincerely,

Trish Krug, SGA Vice President of Community Relations
Randi Veenstra, SGA Vice President of Equity & Diversity

Mayor Cory Booker Dinner and Speech

2009 October 28
by tcnjsga

TCNJ SGA with Cory Booker, Mayor of Newark, New Jersey

TCNJ SGA with Cory Booker, Mayor of Newark, New Jersey

On Tuesday, October 27th, the SGA hosted a successful event with Mayor of Newark Corey Booker. Booker was an all-American tight end at Stanford, a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford, and a graduate of Yale Law. He could have had any job he wanted, and lived anywhere he wanted, but he chose to live in the poorest projects in Newark, determined to fix the city.

The night was supposed to start with a dinner between the Mayor, select faculty, staff, students and SGA members. However, the mayor was not able to attend and cancelled last minute.

The night was saved with a very successful speech by the Mayor, which lasted around 45 minutes. The mayor talked about three themes he thought were vital, love, vision, and discipline.

That was followed by a 45 minute question and answer, and about an hour of a meet-and-greet, in which student shook the Mayor’s hand, and asked any questions. The Mayor was thoughtful enough to take a picture with SGA before leaving around 11:00 pm.

The night was a success, as the music building’s concert hall was packed, forcing students to stand. The speech was inspiring, funny, and entertaining for all. The questions were thoughtful, meaningful, and answered well by the mayor. The night was a major success for SGA and TCNJ.

Changes to the Website

2009 October 23
by tcnjsga

There have been a few changes to the website made recently:

1. There’s a nice TCNJ video and a search bar on the homepage.

2. Newly elected class council (freshman class council) members and senators have been added. All members lists are current.

3. The SGA and E-Board only pages, which have been password protected all this time, now actually have a password. Members will be receiving it soon.

4. There is a new tab called “other”. Under this tab is a “Suggestions” section. You are encouraged to comment on the post to give your suggestions to SGA. You may comment anonymously if you want, but inappropriate comments will not be approved and posted.

5. Under the resources tab, there is a new page for Clubs.

6. The SGA Constitution and Bylaws, as well as future agendas, minutes, bills and resolutions, can be found under the resources tab.

7. Members in each committee are now listed on the committee page.

8. Under the committees tab, there are two new links, “Task Forces” and “Chair, Coordinators, and Liaisons”. Each list every member of each task force, as well as each member who plays a role as a chair, coordinator, or liaison.
